This British Standard specifies the general design requirements and test procedure for rate of climb indicators for aircraft. It applies to mechanical instruments of the “choke-capacity” type in which a capacity is connected to the source of static pressure on the aircraft through a choke. The pressure drop across the choke or the air-flow through it gives a measure of the rate of climb or descent and is measured by means of a suitable differential pressure gauge or flowmeter mechanism.
