BS 7273-4:2015 ExComm (Fire)

This standard BS 7273-4:2015 ExComm (Fire) Expert Commentary on BS 7273‑4:2015, Code of practice for the operation of fire protection measures is classified in these ICS categories:
  • 13.220.20 Fire protection

Part 4 of BS 7273 provides recommendations for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of electrical control arrangements for actuation of door release mechanisms, namely arrangements that:

  1. release fire doors that are normally held in the open position (e.g. by electromagnets), so permitting them to close automatically under the action of the self-closing device when the fire alarm system operates;
  2. unlock doors on escape routes that are normally electronically locked (e.g. by a solenoid or magnetic lock); or
  3. cause powered, sliding doors on escape routes to become permanently open.

The scope of BS 7273-4 includes acoustically actuated and radio-actuated door release arrangements. Advantages and disadvantages of both methods of actuation are described in annexes.
