This British Standard relates to cylindrical parallel steel dowel pins used normally for the accurate location of components relative to each other.

Four grades are included:

Grade I	Precision ground parallel dowel pins;
Grade II	Ground parallel dowel pins;
Grades III and IV	Parallel dowel pins with progressively wider limits of tolerance.

Four grades of diametral accuracy, two necessitate grinding. Materials, dimensions, limits of tolerances, surface texture, stock sizes.
