DESCRIPTION

BS 2782-11:Method 1109A:1989

This standard BS 2782-11:Method 1109A:1989 Methods of testing plastics. Thermoplastics pipes, fittings and valves is classified in these ICS categories:
  • 23.040.45 Plastics fittings
  • 23.040.20 Plastics pipes

This British Standard describes a method for determining the resistance of polyethylene pipes and fittings to immersion in a wet stress cracking agent at elevated temperature.

It is applicable to pipes and fittings of any size for non-pressure applications where the pipes and fittings are subjected to contact with stress cracking inducing agents and associated requirements are specified in the relevant product standard. It is a potentially destructive test intended chiefly for use as a type test to assess, for example, the material, manufacturing process and/or product design.

NOTE The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover.

Method for immersion of samples of pipe or fittings in a surfactant solution at elevated temperature followed by inspection for delamination to indicate inadequacy in the material composition, product design or manufacturing process.
