DESCRIPTION

BS 6413-8:1988

This standard BS 6413-8:1988 Lubricants, industrial oils and related products (class L) is classified in these ICS categories:
  • 75.100 Lubricants, industrial oils and related products

This part of ISO 6743 establishes the detailed classification of family R (Temporary protection against corrosion), which belongs to class L (Lubricants, industrial oils and related products).

It should be read in conjunction with ISO 6743-0.

This classification applies to categories of products which are assigned to ensure temporary protection against corrosion. It includes only those products the main function of which is to ensure temporary protection, the word “temporary” being relevant not to time-limit product efficiency but to the capacity for removal of the product after a certain time.

This classification excludes products that are applied for other purposes but also ensure temporary protection. Vapour-phase inhibitors and other chemical products that differ from petroleum products in behaviour are also excluded.

This classification applies to protection of both bare metals and coated metals (painted metallic surfaces, car bodies, etc.). In addition, corrosion is regarded as deterioration of surfaces of all metals, not only ferrous.

Classifies products into 8 grades according to application and nature of protecting film. Excludes products whose main function is not temporary corrosion protection.
