This standard BS 7969:2004 Adhesives. Ethyl and methyl cyanoacrylate types 1,2 and 3 is classified in these ICS categories:
83.180 Adhesives
This British Standard specifies requirements for two grades of one-component, rapid setting adhesives, each grade having three types.
The grades of adhesives are the following.
Grade E – based on ethyl cyanoacrylate.
Grade M – based on methyl cyanoacrylate.
The types of ethyl and methyl cyanoacrylate adhesives are the following.
Type 1 – low viscosity adhesive.
Type 2 – medium viscosity adhesive.
Type 3 – high viscosity adhesive.
NOTE The majority of cyanoacrylate adhesives used in industry are based on ethyl and methyl cyanoacrylate ester. The ethyl derivative is the most widely used and is recommended for general-purpose applications, particularly where rubber and plastics are involved. The methyl homologue gives stronger bonds to metal and generally shows more resistance to solvent attack. The two types are not necessarily interchangeable.
